A conference on May 7 that might be of interest to students, faculty and staff affiliated with both the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health as well as the Sustainable Technology and Policy Program.

The conference Water in the Middle East & Africa: A Nexus of Cooperation & Conflict will look at a variety of issues related to water in the regions, including public health, the environment, food security and hydro-politics and economics.

Some of the participants will include:

Keynote speaker and former National Science Foundation Director Rita Colwell of the University of Maryland at College Park and Johns Hopkins University, who is an award-winning international pioneer in water-borne infectious disease and the link to climate change.

Charisma Acey of UC Berkeley’s Department of City and Regional Planning, whose research focuses on the social determinants of water access and public health, particularly in urban settings.

Kellogg Schwab, Director of the Johns Hopkins Water Institute and Professor of Environmental Health and Engineering, who conducts and fosters interdisciplinary research to achieve sustainable, scalable solutions for domestic, agricultural, and industrial water challenges.

Eilon Adar Professor at the Institute for Desert Research and Ben-Gurion University, one of Israel’s leading researchers in hydrological and agricultural innovations for overcoming water scarcity.
