Toxic Truths: Exposing Industrial Pollution

Starts in

October 29, 2026

5:30pm – 8:00pm

Industrial pollution is driving a triple crisis: a warming planet, poisoned ecosystems, and sick communities. Confronting it requires hard evidence of the corporate and government decisions behind the damage, and newsrooms are stepping up to investigate and name the actors responsible.

The first Toxic Truths event will be an engaging discussion with Nicholas Schou, Will Evans, Dr. Yoshira “Yoshi” Ornelas Van Horne, Dr. Claire Chaumont, and Joe Donnelly exploring how independent journalists and scientists are exposing industrial pollution corporations and government want to keep hidden. Admission and parking are free. Healthy refreshments will be served.

Hosted by Red Canary Magazine, The Examination, and UCLA Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, this event brings together people committed to the health of our communities and our planet. Together we’ll explore how independent journalism serves those living with the consequences of industrial pollution.

  • Red Canary Magazine delivers brave, independent news that holds power accountable and amplifies frontline voices fighting for environmental justice across the United States, without fear, favor, or pandering. At Red Canary Magazine, we believe investigative reporting and transformative storytelling can change lives, shape futures, and safeguard democracy.
  • The Examination is an investigative global health newsroom that believes that hard-charging journalism that exposes who and what is responsible is a predicate for action. Our reporting draws a direct line between corporate behavior and resulting health and environmental harms. We’ve partnered with 70 newsrooms across the globe, from the New York Times to a two-person team in Cameroon, to deliver stories that are making a difference.
  • UCLA Center for Occupational & Environmental Health’s mission is to address occupational and environmental health issues through advanced research, teaching, training opportunities and service to the Southern California community, achieving this through collaboration with sister centers and local to international affiliates.
