Health disparities, differences in health status across populations, are often the result of social and environmental determinants of health. COEH member Linda Delp and Director Michael Jerrett are seeking to address disproportionate burdens of disease stemming from such social and environmental conditions by focusing on underserved sectors of the workforce and environmentally-contaminated communities. Initiatives include education and community-based research with worker centers and labor unions representing day laborers, home care workers and taxi drives; with community-based clinics and health promotora programs; and with environmental justice groups in communities surrounding pollution sources in the region.
